At last I have been able to take a photo of a red squirrel! We have seen them so many times, but they are always too fast, running up and down trunks and branches. This little fellow knew we were very close, but he had an important job to do. Collecting and burying acorns! At one point he nearly climbed on my feet!

Here on the Isle of Wight there are no grey squirrels, so there's plenty of food for the reds. Grey squirrels are capable of eating green acorns and unripe nuts, whilst reds have to wait for them to turn brown.
